Research Fellow in the School of Women's and Children's Health (Perinatal Imaging Research Group)

Dr. Mahmood AKHTAR is a Research Fellow in the School of Women's and Children's Health (Perinatal Imaging Research Group) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Before joining the School of Women's and Children's Health, Mahmood worked as Senior Research Associate at UNSW's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (2017 - 2019), Assistant Professor in Computer Sciences and Engineering at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Pakistan (2012 - 2017), Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of Sydney (2009 - 2012), and Research Associate at UNSW's Research Centre for Health Informatics (2008 - 2009).

His key research interests include biomedical signal and image processing, 3D computer vision, machine learning, time-series predictive modelling, epidemiology, bioinformatics, and computational biology. He has worked/been working on the following research projects:

Mahmood holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore Pakistan, a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from NUST Pakistan and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales Australia. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, USA.
