Maternal Fetal Medicine
Maternal-Fetal Medicine is the most complex discipline of the maternity spectrum. The Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick hosts the New South Wales Fetal Therapy Centre, performing selective laser therapy for twin-twin transfusion syndrome, in utero fetal blood transfusions and shunt procedures. This environment allows for multidisciplinary, collaborative translational research.
Research is divided into a balanced portfolio of fetal imaging, laboratory, original clinical and collaborative clinical areas.
- Fetal imaging: the use of novel Doppler parameters to assess fetal myocardial efficiency and quantification of power Doppler to define regional perfusion
- Laboratory research group: trophoblast culture techniques, inflammation and pregnancy complications.
- Original clinical: multiple local projects are currently underway within Obstetrics, Fetal Medicine & Midwifery
